I already had Eclipse (Helios) installed on my PC for some Python exploration (NumPy, SciPy, PyDev) so I crossed my fingers, checked the box for "B.. I... and R... T..." in the add-ons and told it to do it. And it started. And it reached 49%. And it went no further. After several further attempts and some random Googling which showed some people had other updates get stuck at 49% but no "here's a fix" messages I decided that wasn't the way forward.
So, instead of extending my existing Eclipse, I downloaded the Eclipse (Indigo) Reporting package and extractde that into another folder. So I now have 2 Eclipses, one for Python, one for Reporting... but more importantly I appear to have a working BIRT having worked through the example.

| Yes, it's not very exciting... but it is a report! BIRT works! |
